Marcelloix's Past and Present

Biography

Born and raised in the West Shroud, Marcelloix comes from an old, storied Twelveswood family on his mother's side and a prestigious Ishgardian and Sharlayan family on his recently-unestranged father's. After studying thaumaturgy as a child and eventually expanding into the practice of black magic, he established Axios Research and Technology (ART), a company through which he could study magic, aether, and relics.Marcelloix entered into a long-term relationship with Adele Bonvivant, the only daughter of a minor Ishgardian house, and the pair raised a daughter, Aalisette. The trio made a small but happy family until the Seventh Umbral Calamity took away Adele, Aalisette, and all of ART's staff. For several years after that, Marce lived as a recluse in the North Shroud, until his family and friends convinced him to return to the world. He recently discovered the identity of his father and has been connecting with that side of his family and their history. He also performed reconnaissance work and covert operations for House Bonvivant, his late wife's family.A practicing black mage, Marcelloix is a known entity to both the Order of Nald'thal and the Hearers of Stillglade Fane, both of which pay mind to his movements and activities. He has a history of oscillating between unreserved affection and fathomless rage, but in recent years, both time and grief have mellowed his anger. Although he continues to value the love he shares with family and friends, he now reserves the rest of his emotions and experiences for those who stood with him in his most difficult moments.

Marce's Abilities and Skills

(And his weaknesses too)

This page aims to give an idea of what to expect of Marce should he have to engage in combat. (Dice rolls will be used unless the outcome is mutually agreed upon.)

Loadout

Devotion. Marce's primary weapon. This is a black mage's staff made by Marce by the smiths at The Warden's Grace. The staff features an oxhorn core wrapped within a pewter body and hosts a brilliant moonstone focus.
The focus appears to be vaguely sapient. It stores a small amount of Marce's aether for emergency use and has been known to remove him from danger.
Bone bracelet. Marce's secondary weapon, made for him to use in situations where he can't wield his staff. This bracelet, crafted mostly by Kallias, bears ice crystals and a black pearl focus. It allows Marce to cast spells without the use of his main weapon. It can break under pressure.
Golden ceremonial knife. The knife’s edges are dulled, and it is covered in very specific runework. When activated by a spell, the knife allows Marce to cast blood magicks from his own blood.
Fae scythe. A light, sharp scythe that bears a mysterious gem focus and can magically fold into itself. A gift from Eo Sul, Marce can continue to use it without incurring owed favors so long as he never asks how Eo Sul obtained it.

Learned Magicks

Thaumaturgy. The basis of Marce's spellcraft, he ran away to Ul'dah as a child to study at Arrzaneth Ossuary.
Black magicks. A natural progression from thaumaturgy, and easy enough for Marce to access, especially when he's one of the few on the premises who can reach the upper shelves without asking for a ladder.
Arcanistry. Mostly learned out of curiosity, and only used as a basis for the creation of new spells.
Summoning. Branched out from arcanistry studies. Marce can technically summon Demi-Bahamut due to his presence at the Battle of Carteneau, but he has only tried to do so once.
Red magic. Also learned out of curiosity, especially since Marce cannot fully use this discipline due to his inability to control white mana.
Fae magicks. These have been handed down through the Axios family for generations, though Marce is the first to have fully delved into the practice. These magicks include casting illusions, telekinesis, and crafting basic items out of aether.
Rune magicks. Marce has studied ancient runes extensively, and can craft custom runes based on their component parts. These magicks have almost no practical use in battle; he can carve runes ahead of time, but can't write them on the spur of the moment.
Blood magicks. A substantial amount of blood has to be present, or Marce has to bleed out enough to be able to use his own. These spells tire him out faster than any others.
Necromancy. Learned solely on a scholarly basis. Marce has never actually raised or animated the dead; he considers the practice abhorrent.
Void magicks. Marce has a concerning amount of mastery over the Void and its lesser denizens.

Learned Skills

Dancing. Marce knows basic dancing both as entertainment and as a combat class, having learned from Crystalline, an expert in both.
Scytheplay. He also knows the basics of how to wield a scythe, which he learned from Lazurite for the purposes of battling a Garlean reaper.
Assorted basic weapons. Marce can use a bow and arrow and a lance correctly, and has used the former for hunting in the past. He also knows some hand-to-hand combat.

Marce's Spells

Marce's magicks blend his experiences with all of the magicks and skills listed above.

Dirge of the World Ender
Marce's black magicks require this trait to be in effect. The Dirge allows him to access his wider aetherpool and cast his most impactful and/or devastating spells. In order to activate the Dirge, Marce focuses his aether and either taps his staff against the ground or snaps his fingers, depending on whether he's using his staff or bracelet.

Fire/Ice/Thunder: While Marce can cast the basic versions of these spells without the Dirge, he can stack additional damage by casting their more lethal versions successfully and without taking damage in exchange.
Blink: This spell allows Marce to teleport directly to any aether-bearing being. He has to keep the target in sight while casting. This move has no offensive capabilities.
Charmed: Marce casts a Gaze-like spell that draws all enemies within 15 yalms if they are looking at him (based on rolls or story, DM’s choice). All charmed enemies move to within 1 yalm of wherever Marce is standing and remain there for one turn, unable to move or attack otherwise.
Illusions: Marce can cast detailed glamours in order to fool opponents. These illusions call for a perception check with Marce gaining +100 on defense.
Fae Mischief/Fae Chakrams: Marcelloix casts a ranged attack that sends either conjured daggers or conjured chakrams toward every enemy in front of Marce within 15 yalms (for Mischief) or a single target (for Chakrams).
Blessing's Bane: Marce selects one target to take double the usual HP loss. He casts a spell that causes a growing ball of black miasma to grow around the target, seeping into the target’s body and essentially placing a Doom debuff on them. If the target loses the roll, Doom takes off the double HP immediately; if they win, they have 1 turn to be healed to full to avoid Doom.

Marce's Weaknesses

Aspect: Marce's aether is heavily Ice-aspected, which renders him weak to Fire spells (other than his own).
Void-Tainted: Marce's aether is also heavily tainted by the Void due to his forays in void magicks. He is susceptible to spells cast with light or holy magicks.
Glass Cannon: He has low vitality and has almost no capacity to heal himself or others. While he can cast Cure, Medica, and Benefic, even one cast of these basic spells would wipe out most of his aether.
Self-Destructor: Overuse of his aether can lead Marce to overaspecting. When this happens, a layer of ice begins to form over Marce until he is frozen in place. In the worst-case scenario, he can freeze solid from the outside in.

Unique Traits

Enhanced Senses: Due to a misadventure involving the Lifestream, Marce's hearing, scent, touch, taste, and perception are all sharper than that of a normal Elezen. Colors, sharpness, and saturation are also greatly enhanced, but his eyes did not physically change, so he still needs glasses in order to not just see colorful blobs.
Soulsight: Also due to that misadventure, Marce can see soul colors, and he can trace the lifelines of souls via the Lifestream. He has to specifically focus to see through the Lifestream, and he can only see a short distance, especially if he's not at a Lifestream confluence.
Fae Curse: As of late February 2024, Marce is under a geis. He cannot die by his own hand, and any attempts at such reduce his access to his aetherpool. Marce's aetherpool is currently at: 80% potency. He can still die by any other means. There is a way to break the geis, but only Eo Sul knows what it is.
Really, Four-Eyes?: Marce suffers from severe nearsightedness and astigmatism, but somehow, no one has ever just snatched his glasses off mid-fight.

Marce's Treasures

Dawnrender. This staff, made of the sternum of a large but unidentified creature, was crafted by Adele and bore childlike carvings of chocobos, moogles, and such added by the mischievous Aalisette. Capable of channeling Marce’s prodigious aether into spells of untold destruction, this staff was unique and, following the loss of his family, unable to be replicated. It was broken in half during combat, then buried under rubble during a cave-in, and is now lost. A team of treasure hunters came across the staff during an excavation, and the Twin Adder returned it to Marce.
Adele’s ring. This is not an engagement ring. This is a ring that she was given as a teenager, and wore constantly until Marce finally proposed to her. She gave him this ring in exchange, and he’s kept it since. Now somewhat tarnished, as it was used to call Adele’s spirit forth before sending her to the Lifestream. It is usually kept in his jewelry box.
The Black Lab. Less a treasure, more a curse. Marce built this laboratory after the Calamity, and used it as a testing ground for his various experiments in magicks and torture. While certain authorities are aware of its existence, its exact location is known only to Marce.
A golden ceremonial knife. The knife’s edges are dulled, and it is covered in very specific runework. When activated by a spell, the knife allows him to cast blood magicks from his own blood. The knife is usually stored in a drawer at the Black Lab, though he moves it to his ring of storage if he thinks he’s going to need it.
A Qiqirn earring. Bought from a traveling merchant shortly after Marce gave up being a recluse, this earring has no special meaning, but he does find comfort in it. If he’s not wearing it, it’s probably in his jewelry box in Ishgard.
A letter from Marce’s father, Sylvain Vespasian. Sylvain was not present for Marce’s childhood, as he had never been informed of Marce’s existence. Upon finding out, he quickly penned a letter for Marce, bearing an explanation and an apology. Marce keeps it hidden between the pages of a blank book, which usually resides on a shelf in his Ishgard home. (See "Journal" below.)
The [REDACTED] drawer. There is a drawer in Marce’s Gridania apartment that, while not clearly locked, cannot be opened via any mundane means. The contents are not known to anyone but Marce, and he is not currently open to discussing them.
Tetsuro’s Omamori. A token from the restoration of Tetsuro’s village in the Hidden Realm. It was mostly kept in Marce's ring of holding, but was lost in the move to Ishgard.
Devotion. Crafted by the smiths at The Warden’s Grace, this staff has an oxhorn core surrounded by pewter, and bears custom runework. Its focus is a moonstone that glimmers with purple, green, and/or blue when in use. When not being carried on Marce’s person (usually glamoured invisible), it is either stored in his ring or left safely at home.
A wooden owl sculpture. This vividly lifelike sculpture was made by a former partner, and was presented to Marce shortly after the pair got together. The sculpture has been placed on a display stand, where it is safely encased in his Ishgard home. Desynthed and used in a set of toys made for the children of the Brume.
A rainbow ring of storage. This item was purchased from a jeweller by Marce about a week after Marce started dating his former partner. The former partner has was given a matching ring. Marce’s ring is constantly worn on his right ring finger. Desynthed and used in a set of toys made for the children of the Brume.
Copper ring of storage. He uses a basic copper ring of his own making as the storage ring in place of the rainbow one.
A box containing several letters. The box bears a map of Hydaelyn on its exterior, and features an attached lid. Although the box does not appear to be locked, it is enchanted, and cannot be opened without the completion of a spell, currently known only to Marce. Inside are all of the letters Marce's former partner wrote to him. The box is currently tucked under his bed at his Ishgard manor.
A bone bracelet. Crafted by Kallias with some help from Marce, this bracelet allows Marce to cast spells without using his staff. It bears ice crystals and runework surrounding a black pearl focus traded to him by a former contact. When not being worn, it is stored in his ring or jewelry box.
A wax stamp kit. The kit includes black, gold, and red wax, and a metal print. This was a gift from a former partner. It is stored on a shelf behind his desk at his Ishgard manor. Given to the council of Bellevaux.
A glowing plant in a goobbue pot. The plant is from a former partner's homeland, and was a gift from him. Formerly cared for in Marce's manor, the plant has been moved to Bellevaux's greenhouse.
Tetsuro’s Hidden Realm charms. This was a powerful charm meant to amplify magic spells. They were a gift to Marce from Tetsuro one Starlight. The charms were wrapped among the branches of his staff, but were lost during the move to Ishgard.
Menphina's moon brooch. Only a few know where this item came from, and Marce will not be discussing its provenance further. He keeps it safely stored in his ring of holding.
A framed image bearing Marce's name in calligraphy. This was crafted by Lazurite and commissioned by a former partner. Currently it is on the wall in his home office. It has been stored safely.
A wooden book holder. This crafty item helps Marce hold a book in one hand while reading it. It was made by a former partner and given to him for Valentione’s Day. He keeps it in his ring of holding, as it sees frequent use. Desynthed and used in a set of toys made for the children of the Brume.
Two origami fish. These are from a former partner. They are currently on Marce's bedside table in Ishgard. Desynthed and used in a set of toys made for the children of the Brume.
Various flowers. His former partner was a prolific flower-gifter. Previously kept and tended to in Marce's many homes, the flowers have been turned over to the care of Bellevaux's greenhouse keepers.
A tourmaline brooch. Formerly part of a former partner's treasure collection, this stone was fitted into a beautiful brooch as a gift for the couple's first anniversary of dating. This resides in Marce's jewelry box. Desynthed and used in a set of toys made for the children of the Brume.
A carved wooden bird. This bird of paradise was carved by a former partner for Marce one day. He loves it. and keeps it on the nightside table where he rests his glasses as well, a deeply personal place. Desynthed and used in a set of toys made for the children of the Brume.
Fae scythe. A light, sharp scythe that bears a mysterious gem focus and can magically fold into itself. A gift from Eo Sul, Marce can continue to use it without incurring owed favors so long as he never asks how Eo Sul obtained it.
A finely carved mahogany barrette. Handmade by a former partner and gifted to Marce for their second Starlight together. Having never had a chance to be worn, it rests safely in Marce's jewelry box. Desynthed and used in a set of toys made for the children of the Brume.
An intricate Qiqirn-shaped wooden box. Also built by a former partner and gifted for Starlight, this box cleverly holds spools of thread, needles, and other necessities for Marce's weaving projects. It does hold some spools of thread but was never fully filled, and although it is made for travel, it sits in a left drawer in Marce's Ishgard home. Desynthed and used in a set of toys made for the children of the Brume.
A scarf with mittens attached. Made by Krysanthe for Starlight, this scarf is one of a matching pair, and the mittens where the hands can be tucked in have hidden magnets, so that the wearers can hold hands even with hands full. Marce's scarf has never been worn and is stored safely in a left drawer in his Ishgard home. Desynthed and used in a set of toys made for the children of the Brume.
A vial of blessed water. This water appears to have healing properties. It is kept close at hand in Marce's ring of storage.
A plain journal. This is the book that his father's letter was stored in; it is now used as a journal, but the pages remain blank unless the proper incantation is uttered. The journal can usually be found wherever Marce is living or staying over at the time, as he usually writes in it at sunrise and at night.
A warmed body pillow. Crafted by Crystalline for Marce following Marce's broken engagement. It's made of a soft but sturdy dark purple fabric, and its filling is firm with a bit of give. It also contains some fire shards to mimic warmth.
A stuffed penguin. Made by Krysanthe from various scrap materials, the penguin shares some of Marce's coloring and wears an overly large pair of glasses. Desynthed and used in a set of toys made for the children of the Brume.

OOC Notes

Hello! My name is alecto. Thanks for visiting Marcelloix's Carrd! Some brief notes about me and my approach to RP:❆ I am 30+, nonbinary (they/them), and BIPOC. Please treat my identities with respect if they come up in conversation.
❆ Marce exists as an extension of the severe grief I've had to learn to cope with over the past several years. Some of the more personal scenes he might have may reference dark themes. If there are any topics that make you uncomfortable, please let me know--preferably beforehand, but otherwise during or right after you become aware of any tension.
❆ I don't typically write ERP unless the other roleplayers involved and I have laid out any expectations and/or things to avoid. Is it unsexy? Maybe. But you know what's super sexy? Open and evolving consent.
And here are some boundaries I've set that I ask all of my RP partners to respect:I am not my character, and he is not me. One is fictional and one is not. One has very real thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
I don't recognize IC resolutions to OOC problems. The same goes for OOC resolutions to IC problems, unless the resolutions have been agreed upon by all involved parties.
I don't entertain anyone who does not accept that trans women are women, trans men are men, and Black lives matter. And that's just for a start. While these themes don't typically show up in my RP, I just don't see a reason to offer my best to people who believe my loved ones and I don't deserve to exist.
And finally, some things that I enjoy and value:
Honest and continuous communication.
Mutual support and effort. I cherish being able to show up for my friends in the ways that they need and appreciate. It's fulfilling and warm when friends do the same for me.
Semi-casual DMing. When I DM scenes, I prefer to leave a bit of space for fun and humor, even (or especially) in heavy or dark scenes. It helps to balance players' engagement and sometimes builds rapport as well.
I'm always looking for more cool people to write with. You can message me on Discord--though you may need to send me a friend request depending on which servers we have in common. If you don't know my Discord handle, please message me ingame (Marcelloix Axios @ Coeurl).
